Police officers are hunting for a thief who pinched a mobile phone from a woman while she was sleeping on a tube train.

The 21-year-old woman was travelling on the Victoria Line when she fell asleep as the train pulled into Pimlico Station on August 12 at around 1.30pm.

As the doors opened she was disturbed by a man snatching the phone from her hand.

He fled the train and when the doors closed the woman shouted at him from the window – but the man just smiled back as the train sped off.

Police said the man made his way to a coffee shop in Tandem Way, Colliers Wood, following the theft.

An image has been released of a man police wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Carl Wayte said: “This was an opportunistic theft of the kind that is thankfully rare on the rail network.

“We are keen to speak to the man in the picture? Who is he? If you know, please contact BTP.”
