The father of former England captain John Terry has been charged over an alleged racist attack.

Ted Terry, 59, has been charged with racially aggravated assault following the incident in the Square Mile earlier this year.

When answering bail at Bishopsgate police station on Tuesday, Terry, from Grays, Essex, was also charged with racially aggravated fear of violence.

He has been charged alongside two other men, Tudor Musteata, 47, from London, and Stephen Niland, 36, from Romford, Essex.

All three are due to appear before magistrates on July 23.

The incident occurred at 8pm on Fenchurch Street on March 22.

City of London Police, which is responsible for the inquiry, declined to elaborate on exactly what is alleged to have taken place.

A spokesman said: “As charges have now been brought we are unable to comment further on the nature of the incident.”

The charge is the latest in a string of police incidents for the Terry family.

It comes after John Terry was last year cleared of racially abusing fellow footballer Anton Ferdinand.

However, the Football Association ruled he had insulted Ferdinand and gave him a four-month ban.
