Knife-wielding man Tasered outside Downing Street

A man wielding a knife was Tasered by police after threatening to kill himself outside the gates of Downing Street.

The 42-year-old man was being questioned by police today after he was arrested by armed officers on guard duty at No 10 just before 9pm last night.

He was arrested on suspicion of owning a bladed weapon and affray and is being held in a central London police station.

The man was taken to hospital after suffering a minor head injury as he fell to the ground after the police were forced to Taser him.

He was later released and was in custody today.

Witnsesses say the man began pointing the knife to his own throat after he was seen shouting in the road just before 9pm last night.
