A teenager was today seriously injured after being attacked by a machete-wielding thug in broad daylight in east London.

The victim, who police said was in his late teens, was slashed on the arm at about 2pm this afternoon in Chesterton Terrace, Plaistow.

He was taken to an east London hospital for treatment after the attack.

His injuries were later found not to be life-threatening, a spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said.

Detectives investigating the attack were not able to provide a description of the suspect they are hunting for tonight.

Witnesses or anyone with information can contact police on 101.
