A man has been charged with fraud in relation to the Grenfell Tower fire which left 71 dead.

Mohammad Ali Gamoota, 31, was charged with fraud on Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police said.

A statement said he was accused of two counts of fraud by false representation.

"He will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 18 April," spokesman added.

Residents of the 120 flats located in the west London tower were forced to flee after the fire broke out in the early hours of June 14.

The fire started in freezer in a fourth-floor apartment and travelled through an open window before catching light to the building's external cladding.

It consumed the entire 24-storey, forcing residents to flee and trapping others in their homes where they were killed.
