A businessman who was a trustee of the prestigious Young Enterprise scheme has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the Tube.

Millionaire James Froomberg, 62, allegedly groped the young woman during a Central line journey on May 1 this year.

The Cambridge-educated executive is a former director of performance and innovation for City of London police.

He was also a National Lottery commissioner for five years, and spent 15 years as a consultant for auditor KPMG. Froomberg spent seven years with Young Enterprise — a charity which helps young people enter the world of work and links businesses with schools — including two as chairman of the London branch. He appeared in the dock at Blackfriars crown court yesterday to plead not guilty to one charge of sexual assault.

He struggled to follow proceedings from the back of court, leaning forward in his seat in the dock so that he could hear counsel and the judge.

“It’s an incident on a train and there’s a conflict of fact,” his barrister James McCrindell told the court. Judge Michael Simon adjourned the case until a two-day trial which is due to take place in the first week of September.

Froomberg, who lives in Edgware, was freed on unconditional bail until the start of his trial.
