Moment armed robber threatens staff with gun in failed betting shop raid

This is the moment an armed robber casually walked into a north London bookies and placed a gun under the counter during an attempted raid in north London.

CCTV footage showed the man walk straight to a cashier at a betting shop in Court Parade, Wembley, and place the suspected firearm under a partition as he demanded cash.

However, the man left the store empty handed after no money was given. He left the bookies and turned left along East Lane, towards Pasture Road.

The attempted robbery took place on Saturday, June 4, and is thought to be linked to another raid at a betting shop in Harrow five days earlier.

Detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad said the first offence took place On Tuesday, May 31, at a bookmaker in College Hill Road.

A man entered the store at 2.30pm and loitered inside for 30 minutes before he handed staff a note telling them to empty the cash drawers.

He made off with a quantity of cash and CCTV showed the man was armed with what appeared to be a gun.

No shots were fired in either incident.

Police described the suspect as as a light-skinned black or Asian man, possibly of mixed race, with a greying beard.

He was seen wearing a high-vis jacket and had dark trousers that were heavily covered in paint. He also wore a distinctive blue and white striped woolly hat.

Detective Constable John Richards, who is leading the investigation, said: "In a short period of time, this man has committed two offences while carrying a gun.

“We urgently want to find him and I would appeal to anyone who recognises him to contact police immediately. This man should not be approached; for an immediate sighting of him dial 999."
