A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was attacked near the Emirates Stadium died from his injuries.

Juris Butans, 52, from Holloway in north London, died after spending more than four months in the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead.

Mr Butans had suffered serious head injuries in an attack on Saturday, July 4, in Drayton Park, Holloway, near the junction with Benwell Road.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on the day of the assault and later charged with grievous bodily harm.

Police have now launched a murder probe along with a fresh appeal for help from the public after Mr Butans died on November 15.

Det Ch Insp Dave Whellams, from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “What we know is that Juris was involved in an altercation with a man in the middle of summer.

“I'm certain there are key witnesses who may have witnessed the incident and we need to hear from them.”

Anyone with any information is urged to call the police incident room on 020 8345 3755 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
