A two-year-old boy has received emergency treatment after an octopus was found lodged in his throat.

The child, from Kansas, US, stopped breathing after the small sea creature became trapped.

His 21-year-old mother returned home from work on Tuesday to find her boyfriend performing CPR on her son.

They immediately rushed him to hospital where doctors treated the child and removed the octopus.

Today police said he was now out of hospital.

Prosecutors are considering whether to bring child abuse charges against the boyfriend, police said.

Officers added the octopus was not a pet and was likely to be used for sushi.
