A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in East Ham this evening.

Police were called to Barking Road, at the junction with High Street South, at 5.30pm on Tuesday after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

A Metropolitan Police Service spokesman said the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their next of kin are yet to be informed.

One man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Barking Road is currently closed between Wellington Road and High Street South while emergency services remain at the scene.

Buses have been placed on diversion and traffic is queuing to the Barking Flyover and Central Park Road.
