A pensioner has been left in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a moped in Bromley.

The man, aged in his 70s, collided with the vehicle near Clock House station, Beckenham Road, at about 1.45pm on Monday.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene and he was taken to a south London hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and Beckenham Road has been closed off as police continue to investigate.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 1.44pm on Monday February 20 to reports of a road traffic collision in Beckenham Road, Bromley.

“Officers attended and found a moped in collision with a pedestrian.

"London Ambulance Service attended and took the pedestrian, aged in his 70s, to a south London hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

“A man (no further details) has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. He has been taken to a south London police station for questioning.

“Road closures are in place. Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
