A police investigation has been launched after a man's body was pulled from Regent's Canal.

Scotland Yard said the death of the man, who is thought to be in his 30s, is being treated as unexplained.

The body was found just before 10.15 this morning at Battelbridge canal basin, close to Tiber Gardens in Islington.

A white forensic tent has been erected on the bank of the canal close to where the discovery was made, and there is a heavy police presence in the area.

A stretch of the canal between York Way and Caledonian Road has been cordoned off with police tape.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 10.14am on Thursday, March 3, to reports of a body in the canal in N1.

"Officers attended and discovered a body in the water at the Battelbridge Basin, close to Tiber Gardens, Islington.

"At this early stage the body is believed to be that of a man aged in his 30s.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and non-suspicious. Enquiries continue."

The body of Italian national Sebastiano Magnanini was found in the same area of the canal in September.
