A police officer was stabbed in the head during a confrontation involving a baby in south London last night.
Police were called shortly after 8pm to reports of a male being violent at an address on Cook's Road in Walworth.
The 20-year-old was said to be armed with a knife and holding a baby.
When police arrived on scene, the man put down the baby and set upon the officers as they tried to engage him, Scotland Yard said.
In the onslaught a male PC in his 30s was stabbed in his head and shoulder.
Police detained a man on suspicion of attempted murder and the injured officer was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
Messages of support for the police constable flooded in on Twitter after Southwark borough officers updated their 6,000 followers on his condition.

Scotland Yard this morning said a man remained in custody and an inquiry into the incident was underway.
