Terrifying footage captured the moment Tube passengers were forced to watch on in horror as two men lunged at each other with knives on an early-morning Victoria Line train.

The two had become embroiled in an argument before they both pulled out huge knives and began trying to attack the other.

In the CCTV footage they can be seen attempting to plunge the knives into each other before the fight spills out onto the platform.

Shocked passengers are seen sat in the carriage, watching on as the violence unfolds.

Violence: One of the men is seen holiding a knife aloft as he lunges at the other

According to the British Transport Police the fight broke out just after 5.30am on August 5 after one of the men, 46-year-old Joseph Dunkley, came across a group of young males on a northbound service from Brixton station.

Dunkley approached 17-year-old Samuel Gbo, who he had confused with someone else he knew and became violence and aggressive.

Fight: The violence broke out when the train left Brixton station in the early hours of the morning

He pulled out a knife, threatening the group, before stabbing Gbo. The teenager responded by also pulling out a knife and stabbing Dunkley twice on the arm.

The violence continued until the train reached Stockwell and the group spilled onto platform, at which point police and paramedics intervened.

Investigating officer PC Neil Lane said the men had “unleashed a shocking display of violence” in the company of unsuspecting passengers.

“Passengers using this early morning service were unsurprisingly frightened by this aggressive and atrocious violence,” he said.

Both men were arrested and convicted at Soutwark Crown Court.

Dunkley, of Florence Road, Plaistow, was jailed for eight years after being found guilty of affray, violent disorder, unlawful malicious wounding and GBH with intent. He had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of an offensive weapon.

Gbo, Wood Green, who is now aged 18, had pleaded guilty to charges of violent disorder, possession of an offensive weapon and unlawful malicious wounding. He was handed a 16 month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months and ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge.

Siwan Hayward, Head of Transport Policing at Transport for London, said: “This violent fight was truly shocking and we have worked with the police to bring the perpetrators to justice. Thankfully instances of knife crime on our network are very low and this sentencing shows it will not be tolerated.”
