This is the terrifying moment a teenager narrowly escapes by two seconds from being killed by a 90mph train after running across rail tracks.

British Transport Police has released the footage as a senior officer said he was staggered the unidentified youngster had escaped with his life.

In the CCTV video, captured at Pyle Station in south Wales earlier this month, the teenager is seen with three others on one platform.

He is seen dropping on to the tracks and begins to cross, while two of his friends spot the train travelling at up to 90mph and appear to shout a warning.

A camera on the opposite platform then shows him hoisting himself up and then leaping back as the train thunders past to avoid being clipped by it.

He escaped being hit by about 1.5 seconds and is seen holding his arms up in 'triumph'.

Inspector Mike Edwards, of British Transport Police, said: “The railway is a highly dangerous environment and anyone seeking to trespass on the line is not only committing an offence but are risking their lives.

"This footage is deeply concerning, quite frankly I am surprised our officers were not called to a fatality that evening – this young man was seconds from tragedy.

“Trespassing is no joke and we urge people to respect the railway and its dangers."
