A teenage boy has died after being hit by a police car while being pursued by officers in Wimbledon.
The police watchdog has launched a probe into the crash after the boy, 16, died in hospital on Monday.
He had been fighting for his life after the collision on Trinity Road, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The teenager was riding a moped with two other boys along South Park Road when it hit a police car at a crossroads at around 2.15am.
Police said the moped collided with the side of the police car as both vehicles crossed the junction at the same time.
The three boys and the moped were being tracked by a police helicopter overhead after reports it had been involved in an attempted robbery earlier in the day.
Police cars also swarmed below to chase the moped, which had been reported lost or stolen to police on July 12.
The Met have not yet confirmed whether the police car involved in the crash was one of the vehicles chasing the moped.
After the crash, police seized two large knives from the boys.
The other moped riders, two boys aged 16 and 15, were also rushed to a south London hospital. The 16-year-old remains in a stable condition.
The boy aged 15 was released from hospital and arrested on suspicion of taking and driving away, failing to stop, possession of an offensive weapon and attempted robbery. He remains in custody at a south London police station.
All three teenagers, including the boy who died, were arrested at the scene.
The Directorate of Professional Standards was informed and the crash was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which is carrying out an independent investigation.
It comes after a spate of moped-related crime across the capital with mounting concern over safety.
In many cases, offenders have ridden stolen mopeds along busy pavements, putting pedestrians in danger, to grab phones from their owners.
Earlier this week it was revealed police had busted one of London's most prolofic moped gangs.
