A suspected gunman and two major drug traffickers from London are on a “most wanted” list of alleged criminals believed to be hiding in Spain.

They are named by Crimestoppers on the list of 13 people, wanted by police across the UK, who are suspected to have sought to hide abroad.

The three men from London are Daniel Bowes, Christopher Mealey and Robert Mortby. Bowes, 43, is wanted on suspicion of importing millions of pounds worth of cocaine from Holland to the UK. He is alleged to have acted as the link man between organised criminals and delivery drivers.

Mealey, 37, is wanted for his part in the same smuggling racket, estimated to have netted £25 million a year.

Mortby, 26, is wanted for attempted murder and possession of a firearm. He is suspected of being one of two men who shot a man outside the Rose & Crown pub in Rodney Road, Southwark, in July last year.

Serbian national Daniel Dugic, 32, is also wanted by Scotland Yard. He is suspected of being involved in a conspiracy to import 255 kilos (496lb) of cocaine on commercial ships using the English Channel.

Police from Hertfordshire are hunting 78-year-old sex offender Michael McCartney, from Letchworth, convicted at a court in March of assaults on boys under the age of 16, before going on the run.

Lord Ashcroft, Crimestoppers founder and chairman, said: “There are still a number of dangerous criminals who see Spain as a safe haven to hide from their past, but with the support of the Spanish and UK public, we can... bring them to justice.”

From Spain, anyone with information should ring the freephone 900 555 111 number, which will be answered in the UK by Crimestoppers agents. From the UK, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
