A violent thug who left his ex-partner needing more than 40 stitches after attacking her with a Stanley knife has been jailed for 21 years.

Carlington Francis launched a campaign of abuse against his 36 year-old ex, resulting in a non-molestation order being made against him.

Despite this, as the victim got in a taxi on Hornsey Road on March 8, outside London Metropolitan University, Francis leaned into the car and slashed her face with a Stanley Knife.

The 39 year-old then grabbed the victim’s handbag and ran off towards the Emirates Stadium.

The victim suffered two deep cuts to both cheeks and a deep cut to her hand as a result of the attack, causing tendon and nerve damage.

In total, the victim required more than 40 stitches for the cuts to her face and arms.

An investigation was launched by the Met’s Islington Community Safety Unit (CSU) and Francis was arrested at Heathrow Airport a day after the attack as he attempted to leave the country.

He was found with approximately £3,000 in cash.

After being found guilty of GBH with intent and breaching a non-molestation order at Blackfriars Crown Court last Friday, Francis, of Balliol Road, Tottenham, was jailed for 21 years.

Islington CSU’s detective constable Pritpal Bhabra said: "I would firstly like to commend the courage and dignity of the victim, who has been through a dreadful ordeal. This attack was brutal and unprovoked and the victim suffered terrible injuries as result.

“Francis has shown no remorse for his violent actions and the long prison sentence is entirely justified.

“It sends a clear message that domestic abuse will not be tolerated and those who carry out such attacks will be held to account for their actions."
