Food For London Now: Happy Diwali as The Felix Project delivers thousands of meals to temple

“Thrilled”: Felix Project food arrives at Neasden Temple before being distributed

The Evening Standard’s Food For London Now appeal started its Christmas drive by delivering more than 40,000 meals to Londoners in time for Diwali through our partner the Felix Project.

The collaboration with Neasden Temple supported our appeal’s mission to deliver surplus nutritious food to families who would otherwise have struggled to put meals on the table during the five-day celebration.

After a rise in Covid-19 cases, England was this month placed in a second lockdown lasting until December, meaning millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the country were unable to celebrate Diwali with loved ones.

But the team of volunteers at Felix and the temple made deliveries each day from November 9 to the elderly, the physically or mentally impaired, and London families who face adversities as a result of the pandemic.

Let’s Feed London Now

This November and December, together with our sister title The Independent, we will be delivering food directly to 1,000 Londoners a day through our partner With Compassion. Please donate here to help ensure no Londoner goes hungry this Christmas

Head Sadhu of the Neasden Temple, Swami Yogvivekdas, said: “This is a very difficult time of year for so many, and their challenges are compounded by the impact of the ongoing pandemic.”

He added: “We are thrilled to help deliver food across London to those who need it the most — and in doing so, share the spirit and values of Diwali.”

Mark Curtin, CEO of the Felix Project, said: “London has a rich diversity of communities and the Felix Project aims to serve them all.

“Working with our brilliant friends from Neasden Temple is just one way the Felix Project strives to reach everyone who may be at risk of hunger and malnutrition, and we hope they had a very happy Diwali.”
