The UK has today recorded 53 more Covid-19 deaths and 3,030 more cases of the virus.
The official UK death toll now stands at 126,980.
Between April 2- 8 there have been 216 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test, a decrease of 32.5 per cent compared to the previous 7 days.
A further 34 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 86,510.
Patients were aged between 54 and 95 and all had known underlying health conditions.
It comes as new data shows coronavirus cases have plummeted to their lowest levels since July,.
There is currently an average of 1,924 symptomatic cases of Covid-19 in the UK, according to the ZOE Covid Symptom Study.
The cases are based on swab tests data from up to five days ago and it compares to 4,154 daily cases from a week ago, a drop of 54 per cent from last week.
The figure is also down 98 per cent from a peak of 69,000 cases at the start of 2021.
A further 99,530 first jabs were given in the vaccination programme and 408,396 second jabs.
Government data up to April 7 shows that of the 37,899,029 jabs given in the UK so far, 31,807,124 were first doses and 6,091,905 were second doses.
Some 92 per cent of people classified as clinically extremely vulnerable had received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine by April 4, NHS England figures showed.
The figures come a day after it was announced that adults aged 18 to 29 are to be offered an alternative to the AstraZeneca vaccine, amid fears of a link to rare blood clots.
Scotland’s First Minister has said she will “not have any hesitation” about getting the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine when she goes for her first jab next week.
Nicola Sturgeon added she is “hopeful” the decision to offer younger people an alternative product will not have a “significant impact” on the target of offering all Scots their first jab by the end of July.
She is due to receive her first dose on April 15.
She said: “I don’t know which vaccine I will get offered, but if I am offered the AstraZeneca vaccine I will take the AstraZeneca vaccine and I will not have any hesitation in doing so.
“I will be absolutely happy to take the AstraZeneca vaccine, if that is what is offered to me.”
