Quitting the EU would hit London’s technology and science workers with a “decade of uncertainty”, says Labour MP Andy Burnham.

He issued the warning on a visit to a new science park, Londoneast-uk, which hopes to attract start-ups from the capital’s universities with affordable rent and modern laboratory facilities.

The shadow home secretary said a vote to exit the EU would leave Britain “isolated, uncertain, fearful of the future”, adding: “Businessmen in this room will be facing not just a few days or weeks but a decade of uncertainty hanging over the British economy.”

He told one apprentice during a Q&A session that her “life chances will be reduced” if Britain chooses Brexit on June 23 and also claimed an Out vote would force a second Scottish independence referendum.

“It won’t just lead to the break-up of Europe, it will lead to the break-up of Britain,” he predicted.

The Londoneast-uk site in Dagenham was acquired in 2014 by Site Operations Group.

A fifth of the 17-acre site has been refurbished and early tenants include Elutec College of Design and Engineering and its 450 students.

More than 1,000 jobs are set to be created within five years.
