Chelsea tractor crashes through railings into a Fitzrovia basement

A brand new £80,000 Range Rover got wedged between a wall and a basement after an accident in Fitzrovia.

The gleaming white 4x4 Range Rover Sport had left the road and smashed through metal railings before becoming stuck at the bottom of a 14-foot drop.

Witnesses said the woman driver and three female passengers escaped unscathed from the crash which occurred in the early hours of Sunday.

But the roof was wrecked and was eventually lifted out of its resting place by a crane.

One onlooker said: “They’re so lucky to be alive - I suppose it just goes to show how tough those vehicles are.

“I don’t think they’re designed for that type of off-roading though.”

A spokesman for the Met said the incident was not a police matter and they would not be investigating.
