Dream dance at Coliseum for ballerina, 10

Rising star: Annabel Pickering
14 March 2012

To dance on the stage of the London Coliseum is something that most aspiring ballerinas can only dream of. But Annabel Pickering is to take the chance of a lifetime aged 10 after being selected to perform in Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Coppélia.

Peter Wright’s production of the ballet - which tells the story of toymaker Dr Coppélius’s mechanical doll Coppélia causing havoc in a village when she is mistaken for a real woman - opens tomorrow for five performances finishing on Sunday.

Annabel, from Worplesdon, Surrey, was put forward by the Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden, where she is a junior associate.

She said: “It’s really exciting. I am nervous but I’ve always wanted to perform at the Coliseum.”
