A business owner has said his customers are “lucky to be alive” after a lorry ploughed into his bar in west London as terrified customers drank outside.

Piere Virdi, owner of the Common Room, in Ealing, was behind the bar when a huge lorry rolled into his shop on Thursday afternoon. It is believed no driver was behind the wheel.

He said his customers frantically fled as the lorry careered towards the pub, in Uxbridge Road, with some narrowly missing being hit.

Dramatic pictures have appeared on social media of the lorry having ploughed through the pub garden’s barriers and knocked over tables.

Mr Virdi said: “The lorry rolled down the road, hit another car and rolled into my business.

“There were people sitting there, they’re lucky to be alive to be honest. They were in serious shock and just left.

“I now need to get the whole front done. It was a little bit scary.”

He added that the lorry was travelling at about 15mph.

MPS Ealing posted on Twitter: "We're currently dealing with a lorry that rolled into the side of The Common Room. There are Rd closures Uxb Rd J/W Park Grove. Please avoid."

A Met Police spokesman confirmed that they were called to the scene at about 5.40pm and that no-one was injured in the crash.

No arrests have been made.
