A former Royal Marine today told of his elation after completing a gruelling 250-mile charity trek from the London Eye to the Eiffel Tower in just seven days.

Fitness coach Ian Finch, 35, from Barnet, raised £2,500 for the Everyman appeal after his brother Roger survived testicular cancer.

He was joined by friends and family on the English leg of his trek before his final solo journey through Normandy, walking more than 30 miles a day with a 40lb rucksack before reaching Paris yesterday.

Mr Finch has set himself 50 challenges since leaving the Marines in 2007, including kayak- ing the length of the Thames and walking 1,000 miles through Italy.

He has already completed a 120-mile dog sledding expedition in -30c temperatures, and is next off to the Mount Everest base camp.
