A London schoolgirl aged 11 has achieved the top possible IQ test score of 162 to be accepted into Mensa.

Anushka Binoy, from Isleworth, west London, joined the top one per cent of the society for intelligent people.

Her father Binoy Joseph, an IT consultant, said he always knew his daughter was bright but was taken aback by her test score.

He said: “She loves reading quite advanced books and she memorises a lot of what she reads, so I knew she was pretty special but I was amazed when we got the results back. We’re very proud of her.”

Anushka, a pupil at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Isleworth, said: “When I walked into the exam hall I was flabbergasted. The room was full of grown-ups and I felt very nervous at the time. But when I started the exam I found it easier.

“Now that I’m in Mensa I really want to join the creative writing group because I love creative writing.”

A Mensa spokesman said the society did not keep a record of members’ IQs, but the test score was certainly “exceptional”.
