The creators of Mad Men have hired a British illustrator who worked in London in advertising during the Sixties to promote the new series.

Brian Sanders, 75, was approached to draw the ad campaign for the latest instalment of the drama set on Madison Avenue after his work was spotted in a book of magazine advertising.

The programme’s marketing team traced Sanders to his home near Saffron Walden and asked him to draw the advertising campaign to promote the next series featuring Jon Hamm, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones and Christina Hendricks.

Mr Sanders, who has worked in advertising for more than 50 years, said the approach came “out of the blue” but that he was delighted to be asked. He said: “I do like the programme because the same things were going on in London, it took me right back to those days.”

Mr Sanders added: “We used to have a party every Friday night. It was very civilised. People would mostly have a G&T but you could have what you wanted.”
