A lorry driver has been cleared of causing the death of a cyclist by careless driving.

Magda Tadaj, 25, was killed after suffering “catastrophic injuries” in a crash with a lorry in Croydon, south London, on the afternoon of May 23 last year.

The driver of the black Scania lorry, 49-year-old Darren Anderton, was charged and was taken to trial accused of causing her death.

The Old Bailey previously heard how Anderton stopped and saw Ms Tadaj lying in the road. He waited for around eight minutes for paramedics to arrive before driving off.

On Thursday a jury found him not guilty, clearing him of the charge.

The court heard he had left his base in Coventry at about 4am and driven about 140 miles (225km) before the crash in St James's Road, Croydon, south London.

Anderton, of Acacia Road in Nuneaton, said he had been driving for 30 years and had considered himself a "good driver".
