A motorcyclist was left seriously injured after being knocked down in Southwark today.

The male rider was left sprawled on Old Kent Road just after 5pm.

A spokeswoman for Scotland Yard said he was taken to a south London hospital for treatment.

She described the incident as a "collision" but could not immediately clarify what type of vehicle had hit the victim.

The road was closed for just over an hour close to the junction with Grove Road while police investigated but has since re-opened.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101.
