Piccadilly fire: Crews tackle blaze in basement in central London

Hannah Al-Othman16 May 2016

Fire crews were today tackling a blaze in a basement in Piccadilly.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene after emergency services were called just after 2pm.

About 20 fire fighters are currently tackling the blaze in the non-residential building in Albemarle Street.

On Twitter, witnesses described seeing firefighters "everywhere" on Piccadilly.

One said: "What's happened at Piccadilly does anyone know there's fire engines everywhere."

While Paul Reynolds ‏posted: "Not sure why there are 6 fire engines on Piccadilly?"

Road closures have been put in place, with Albemarle Street shut from Piccadilly to Stafford Street, and one eastbound lane on Piccadilly is also closed.
