Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man hurled racist abuse at a train passenger who challenged him for spitting on the London Underground.

The victim was travelling between Seven Sisters and King’s Cross on the Victoria Line at around 2.25pm, March 26, when he noticed the man spit.

He politely told him to stop his behaviour but the man reacted by launching a tirade of racist abuse.

The abusive language continued for the rest of the journey until the victim left the train at King’s Cross station.

Police Constable Michael Willoughby said: “Incidents like this are rare, and I am sure anyone who witnessed this appalling behaviour will remember it.

“We are committed to ensuring the Underground remains a safe environment, and need any witnesses to come forward as we continue to investigate the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference TSUB/B5 of 21/04/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
