A pop-up cat rehoming centre is set to open in south London as a charity steps up its work to encourage animal lovers to give a feline a home.

The Cats Protection’s transportable homing centre, at a former empty warehouse in Mitcham, aims to find homes for up to 50 cats each month.

The centre, which will be a temporary home for cats until they are adopted, is equipped with spacious pens and veterinary facilities.

Rosie Wheeler, deputy manager at Cats Protection Mitcham homing centre, said: “There is some great work going on at Mitcham and we will be working with other organisations to ensure that we are here for the urban cat population.

"That is what it is all about after all; helping cats find loving homes.

“It’s really important to give these cats a second chance in life so we welcome anyone who would like to adopt or foster a cat to come down and visit us.”

The pop-up centre is part of a new project which will be rolled out in other locations across the country over the next five years.

The centre, at Unit 3 – 4 Boundary Business Court, Church Road, launches on Saturday, July 25, and prospective adopters and fosterers are invited to visit between 11am and 4pm.
