Thousands of police officers today marched through central London in honour of their fallen colleague Keith Palmer, who died in a terror attack.

Officers took to the streets wearing immaculate formal dress, many bearing medals they earned protecting members of the public.

The new Met Police Commissioner marched alongside deputy Commissioner Craig Mackey, ahead of fellow officers.

An estimated 40-50,000 members of the public joined them to honour the officer who was stabbed to death on March 22.

The coffin containing PC Palmer was taken to the Chapel of St Mary Undercroft in the Palace of Wesminster on Sunday afternoon ahead of the service this morning.

His body was brought to the chapel this afternoon with a special escort by the Metropolitan Police.

Father and husband PC Palmer, 48, died protecting the gates of parliament as terrorist Khalid Masood stabbed him to death after ploughing into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge.

The Charlton Athletic season-ticket holder had served in the Metropolitan Police for 15 years.

The funeral was the first public engagement for new Metropolitan Commissioner Cressida Dick.
