A nursery manager who has turned down proposals from 14 men said she is still looking for a match who can meet her extensive list of essential requirements.

Sonia Poleon, 52, said she has compiled a list of at least 25 must-have qualities for a potential suitor and will not compromise on any of them.

The mother-of-four from Norbury said she had been proposed to more than a dozen times in 12 years by men she has met through various walks of life - but had not been tempted to marry any of them.

Speaking to the Standard, Ms Poleon, who divorced her husband after 21 years together, added that her Christian beliefs meant she was not prepared to have sex before marriage.

She said: "I have got a long list of what I am looking for. I want somebody who has already got their own career carved out. They must be single and they must be sane."

She continued: "I am not going to marry someone who does not know where they're going. I have a plan and that person must be goal-orientated."

Ms Poleon said her main requirements for a husband were that he was single, sane, successful and sexy - but she would not reveal her other essential qualities.

Asked what her advice was for other single women, she said: "I think they need to know what they want. I have a list of 25 essential requirements, 19 desirable qualities and four 'can't stand' elements. I put things into categories. If they really want that person they will find them."

Ms Poleon, manager of Little Saints Day nursery in Thornton Heath, revealed details of the proposals in an interview yesterday with James O'Brien on LBC ahead of Valentine's Day this weekend.

She told the radio host she was "attractive" but not "exceptionally attractive" when he appeared surprised by the number of offers she had received.

She said: "I've been proposed to 14 times and I've said no 14 times. I've turned them all down. They're not suitors that I'm looking for."

O'Brien replied: "They wouldn't just propose to you out of nowhere. They wouldn't just stop you in the street, do they? You must've gone out with them. I'm confused, frankly Sonia."

She responded: "I didn't have 14 relationships with them, these are people I've had friendships with and over a while, they've thought 'she seems like a good person, let me propose to her'".

She continued: "They may think I'm suitable for them, but I don't necessarily think they're suitable for me. [Rejecting them] isn't a nice thing to do."
