Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has applied to make a trademark of the “heart” hand gesture that he makes after scoring a goal.

The footballer wants to put the logo, with his squad number 11, on ranges of clothes, shoes, hats, bags and jewellery.

The trademark has been filed with the Intellectual Property Office under Gareth Bale c/o The Stellar Group Limited, his sports management company.

The Welsh international, 23, who first made the sign at a 2-1 Spurs victory over Arsenal in 2010, revealed it is a tribute to his girlfriend.

Experts said he might struggle to make the trademark legally enforceable as the gesture is used by other stars including Justin Bieber.
