Squatters and residents clash over raves

Squatters holding 24-hour raves at Soho's derelict Sunset Cinema have been disturbing residents, with one event ending in a 4am confrontation in the street between partygoers and neighbours.

A sign on the door describes the squat as "the people's nightclub". The cinema, in Brewer Street, lost its licence in 2008 after police exposed it
as a venue for sex orgies and swingers' parties. Two years earlier a pensioner was stabbed in the neck there.

Westminster council, which last summer rejected an application to turn the building into a nightclub, said it was pursuing legal action over the raves.
