Tom Daley 'excited for home crowd buzz' at London Diving World Series

Diving champion: at the Tom Daley Diving Academy Launch

The London Aquatics Centre is to host its first major event next week since reopening after the Olympics.

Tickets are on sale to see the worlds best divers, including Olympian Tom Daley, competing at the FINA/NVC Diving World Series April 25-27.

Daley, 19, who is now based at the former Olympic pool in Stratford, is working under a new coach, Jane Figueiredo, who is also head of British Diving’s new high performance centre.

Wrist and tricep injuries have hindered Daley’s recent performances in the World Series but despite this he was awarded bronze in Beijing and came fourth in Dubai.

He said he is hoping the “buzz” of the home crowd will spur him on in London.

Daley, who moved to London from Plymouth in January, said: “The home crowd is going to be one of the major factors. I haven’t felt that kind of buzz and atmosphere since the Games so I am looking forward to them spurring me on.”

“It’s great to actually have one of the legs of the FINA Diving World Series come here to London because it will be the first major event held in the pool since the Olympic Games.

“Everyone around the world, the divers anyway, are so excited to come back here and relive the memories.

“I have been pretty pleased with my first two performances in the World Series. I had some injuries leading into those so I wasn’t in the best shape.

“But now I have had a solid run of recovering from those injuries so barring any other disasters I will be good to go next week.

The 19-year-old said he is settling into life in the capital and moving to London is “one of the best moves I have made.”

He said: “I feel great, the new coach has been working really well with me and I feel my diving is really fresh and everything is going well.”
