10 January 2014

Parks police officers in west London are to be equipped with body worn cameras for dealing with anti-social behaviour and other minor offences.

round 30 of the council employed officers - whose powers are limited - in the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham are to get the cameras.

The officers usually deal with dog fouling and fighting, litterers, drunks and anti-social behaviour.

The councils say the cameras, which cost £300 each, will speed up prosecutions and help cut crime.

Greg Smith, the leader of Hamersmith & Fulham, said : “Video footage is much more effective in securing convictions than verbal accounts, which can be challenged. “
