'Worst audience ever': theatre producer slams audience at Doctor Faustus play starring Kit Harington

You know nothing: Theatre producer slams audience watching Kit Harrington

A renowned theatre producer has slammed the audience at a West End play starring Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington as "the worst ever."

Richard Jordan said that the Friday evening performance of Doctor Faustus starring Kit Harington was ruined by star-struck theatre goers filming on their phones and eating chicken nuggets throughout the performance.

Writing in The Stage, Mr Jordan said the atmosphere at the Duke of York’s theatre showed how some West End audiences featuring popular TV stars had changed.

He wrote: “What amazed me most was this audience, many of them Game of Thrones fans, could see nothing wrong in talking, eating, and taking pictures throughout the show - or complaining when asked to stop.”

Mr Jordan added his disgust at the lack of respect shown by filming the performance of Harington, who plays popular character Jon Snow in the hit series.

He added: “I walked away from the Duke of York’s theatre despairing for those of us who want to go to the theatre to watch and listen but are seemingly no longer being afforded that opportunity, while the respect shown towards the performers on stage seems to be at a low ebb.”

Among Mr Jordan’s man complaints were a pair of audience members in the theatre’s Royal Circle area loudly munched on Chicken McNuggets and fries during the play which they had sneaked in.

He added that the sound of others eating large tubs of popcorn and bags of crisps was like “listening to eating in Dolby Stereo".

The play’s producer, Jamie Lloyd, has been credited with attracting new audiences to the West End.

An Ambassador's Theatre Group spokesman said: "We look to provide the best possible experience to all our audience members, and do all we can to ensure that everyone attending a show, play or musical can enjoy their trip to the theatre to the full, which includes offering a range of drinks and snacks.

"However, we do ask our customers be considerate of other patrons within our auditoriums, particularly during live performances."
