Just a few yards from the Cenotaph, the National Portrait Gallery marked Armistice Day with the launch of Wounded — The Legacy of War — edited by ITN journalist Caroline Froggatt with photographs by Canadian singer-songwriter/photographer Bryan Adams.

Several limbless and scarred veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who feature in the book turned up, as did Mick Jagger’s girlfriend L’Wren Scott and Hugh Grant. “Every day is a challenge for these people and it won’t get any easier,” said Adams. “For every four people in this book who were wounded, one person has died.”
