Chapmans see their art get a kicking

Jake and Dinos Chapman were proudly showing off their latest work to their wives, three metal dinosaurs entitled The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, which forms part of the Sculpture in the City 2013 exhibition in the Square Mile, when a man gave the work a flying kick.

“When I saw that bloke run up to take a flying kick at our art work, I felt the red mist descend,” Jake told me. “The one thought going through my mind was, ‘Jake, don’t hit him with your left hand, mate!’ You broke that one the other week.” Fisticuffs were averted as the culprit turned out to be Tim Lucas, the engineer responsible for the installation. Artists and engineer had not met before.
