New romantics are back in Carnaby Street

Women of a certain age went weak at the knees when Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet made a joint appearance in the West End last night. The Eighties pop groups attended the Carnaby Street launch of Careless Memories, a book of photographs of Duran Duran’s 1984 US tour. “There was a lot of madness on that tour,” recalled Le Bon, who was there with his wife, Yasmin. “There was madness on stage, off-stage, madness in the limo and in the hotel rooms.”

Bassist John Taylor added: “It’s become an unappreciated period in British pop history for some reason.”

Andy Taylor, original guitarist who left the band for the second time seven years ago, was at the launch but did not join the other four members in group photos. Has he become Duran’s Syd Barrett?
