Tributes to BBC World News star Komla Dumor

20 January 2014

Sorry to hear of the sudden death of Komla Dumor, the highly regarded presenter of BBC World News. He was just 41. Among the tributes comes an eloquent one from Chimamanda Adichie, author of Half a Yellow Sun. She is Nigerian, he Ghanaian and the two found themselves mixing in the new African elite.

“I last saw him in October at the African Leadership Conference in Mauritius,” writes Chimmy for the Nigerian newspaper, the Premium Times. “He was leaving. I had just arrived, and had missed a birthday party for him the previous day. ‘I thought superstars just don’t go to parties,’ he teased.” He was rather a big star too. She remembers Komla for “his big chuckle, the light in his eyes, a genuine goodwill for people” and, a rare talent, “no false modesty”.
