Watch those cyclists clash in Uxbridge

2 September 2014

With news that former Olympic rower James Cracknell will challenge Boris Johnson for the chance to be the Tory candidate in Uxbridge, The Londoner hopes the pair will get a chance to debate the issue of cycling helmets.

Cracknell nearly died in 2010 while cycling in the US and has attributed his survival to the fact that he was wearing a helmet when hit. Subsequently he has become a leading campaigner for cycle safety and helmet use, backing the “use your head” campaign. Boris, on the other hand, has said he “won’t be bullied” into wearing a helmet and insists that he won’t provide them for users of his Boris bikes.

The Londoner has a solution. Perhaps if Cracknell is pipped in Uxbridge he can replace BoJo at City Hall and find a way of giving cyclists the headgear they need.
