Sir Richard Branson has hailed the “magical” experience of flying to the edge of space aboard Virgin Galactic’s first fully crewed flight.
Virgin Galactic likens the carbon footprint for space passengers to a business class return ticket on a trans-Atlantic flight.
But per passenger and mile travelled, it’s been calculated the CO2 emissions are considerably more than a commercial airline trip.

Sir Richard himself revealed the special guest passenger in an interview, and while no firm date was revealed he says the firm plans to launch its first fully private space flight in the autumn.
