Commuters battled through “nightmarish” overcrowding at one of north London’s busiest Tube stations as major delays hit the morning rush hour.

Huge crowds of passengers struggled to get into Finsbury Park after a signal failure at Tottenham Hale crippled the Victoria line.

The signal failure at 7.15am caused heavy disruption and the knock-on effects lasted for hours, with Victoria line passengers still enduring minor delays at 10am.

Transport for London was hit by a deluge of complaints as commuters shared photos of the frustrated crowds outside Finsbury Park on social media.

Niall O'Connor shared a snap of the queue with the caption: “Fun times on the Tube this morning.”

Another tweeter wrote: “This overcrowding @ Finsbury Park in the mornings is a problem n my temper’s not set up for it.”

A spokesman for TfL said: “We apologise to any customers for disruption to their journeys.”
