Gatwick saw the busiest single month in its 80 year history last month as 4.6 million passengers travelled through the airport in July.
This marked a 6.9 per cent increase on passenger numbers compared to the same month last year.
The airport has seen particular growth in long-haul routes, as 41.7 million passengers passed through Gatwick in the past year.
Flights to long-haul destinations have seen a 23 per cent increase collectively versus last July, with North Atlantic routes alone growing by 49.9 per cent.
Gatwick has also seen increased passenger numbers to summer holiday destinations, with 69 per cent more travellers flying to Bilbao in Spain, and 64 per cent more to Pula in Croatia, as well as a 56 per cent increase in numbers flying to Cagliari, Sardinia, and 55 per cent more people flying to Chania in Crete.
A new easyJet route to Tivat in Montenegro has also seen passengers numbers from the south London airport to the Balkan country soar by 73 per cent.
The airport has also seen an increase in domestic flights, with passenger numbers to Belfast alone soaring by 90 per cent, and an increase in cargo volumes, which have risen by 31 per cent on average in every month of the last quarter.
