Londoners have greeted news of the Tube strike cancellation with relief this evening.

Commuters across the capital had been fearing the worst with the 24-hour action set to begin on Tuesday evening and run for most of Wednesday.

But social media was filled with celebratory posts following the RMT’s dramatic announcement this afternoon.

Maria Mazza tweeted: "Woop woop tomorrow's #TubeStrike has been cancelled! We can all smile and breathe again."

Twitter user @chelsiegr8batch wrote: “So glad the tube strike has been cancelled for tomorrow, that would've put me in a right mare.”
