A body, believed to be that of missing kayaker Grant Broster, has been found in the River Wey a fortnight after he went missing.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene on Monday evening, and the body was found near the Waterside Centre, in Guildford, just after 6pm.

The body was later recovered from the river in a blue tarpaulin, and was loaded into a private ambulance.

The 56-year-old Guildford resident, fell into the water on March 28 after his kayak capsized, triggering a huge search and rescue operation.

Mr Broster's son, who was also in the boat, made it to safety on the bank of the river after trying and failing to pull his father to safety.

His family said he had not seen the flood warnings that were in place at the time.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: "Although formal identification has not yet taken place Mr Broster's family have been notified.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Broster at this difficult time."
