A three-year-old boy has died after being run over on the driveway of a house on an exclusive street.

The youngster died after the incident at a house on Bury Road in the upmarket Branksome area of Poole, Dorset, on Thursday afternoon.

The boy, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance to hospital but died later from his injuries.

A police investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances of the collision, which happened at around 3.40pm.

Inspector Matt Butler, from the Dorset Police traffic unit, said: "It is with great sadness that I inform you a three-year-old boy was killed in a collision involving a vehicle at a private address in Poole on the afternoon of October 1.

"Police collision investigators and crime scene investigators attended the scene and an investigation has been commenced to identify exactly what happened.

"The little boy's family are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

"They have requested that they be left in peace to grieve."

Bury Road is one of the most sought-after locations in the area, with houses often selling for more than £2 million.
